Dave Ardell wanted to do a CA on a quasi-crystal, so I got out my quasi-crystal program that I had to write for a solid-state physics class in 1994. After learning how to fill polygons using PostScript, I wrote a simple program that would print a picture of a quasi-crystal with the colors of each tile being chosen somewhat randomly. (The algorithm for coloring is not actually random at all, although the overall affect does appear fairly random.) Picture 4 shows this tiling; this quasi-crystal is made of up two sorts of diamonds, a fat diamond and a skinny diamond.

This quasi-crystal has, to some extent, five-fold symmetry. It does not have any overall periodicity, which is why it is a quasi-crystal and not a crystal.
