High-frequency and -field EPR of high-spin transition metal coordination complexes

This talk will demonstrate the advantages of extending the range of frequencies, and correspondingly also magnetic field in Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) of high-spin transition metal coordination complexes. Of those advantages, I will concentrate on the important observable, called zero-field splitting (zfs), which can be measured using our technique with an unprecedented accuracy. The origins of zfs as well as its meaning and problems involved in modeling it will be discussed. I will present results on a few specific metal ions such as iron in three important valence states (+2, +3, +4) to illustrate the discussed points.
